Jogger Stroller: What to expect on your first run

Your jogger stroller is assembled, and it is time for your first walk or run.  Here is
some advice about what to do next, and what to expect:

image WHERE TO WALK

Seeing that you are just getting back into shape, don't over do it!

Choose a nice short course that ends close to where you started. It is probably wise to start with a flat course because pushing 60 lbs uphill is not easy on your first go.

However, do not be discouraged if you can only manage a short distance - your strength will develop!

RUNNING:

Jogging with a stroller is a little different than regular running. At first you will find that your feet bump up against the rear-axle when you run - so you will have to learn to shorten your stride to adjust.

Maintain an erect posture and do not hunch over.  Grip the handlebar lightly and keep your forearms parallel to the ground.  Keep your pace smooth and even and do not sprint.

image TURNING:

Be aware that a fixed wheel jogger stroller is not designed to make sharp turns.

To change direction in a fixed wheel, you have to push down on the handlebar to lift the front wheel, and pivot on the backwheel.  You will get used to this fairly quickly.

Make sure you check on baby frequently during your walk or run.

Look through the moon-roof (or peek-a-boo window) in the canopy to see if she is comfortably bundled and not too hot or too cold.

If you don't have a window, you will have to stop and walk around to the front of the stroller.

ENTERTAINMENT

If your child is of toddler age - make sure that you have planned some of kind of fun for him. Maybe some toys tied to the bumper bar, snacks or a sippy cup.

Maybe you will have some songs to sing, or games to play - but you should have a few ideas to keep them entertained.

Of course some kids doze off as soon as you get out there - so you may actually have some quiet time for yourself!!!

Also, don't expect your toddler to stay put for the whole run - older kids will have to be let out of the stroller to stretch their legs and run around
